Workgroup Urban Structures Research dept.

The aims of this section are to contact private or public owners of subterranean properties and archives, the documentation and implementation of historical research and the preparation of information and underground structures for public tours as well as for all-day or all-week seminaries. The subject area of the Section are: the architecture of Urban Infrastructure in General, e.g. gas and water supply, sewers, public transport technology, or the historic development of modern urban life.

This Section wants to push the knowledge and the contacts of Berlin Underworlds' Association outwards. We will deal more intensively especially with subterranean subject areas, which do not belong necessarily to our current central topics, e.g. to the exploration of Air Raid and Civil Shelters from the times of the Second and the Cold War. Thus, there will be interconnections to other sections of the research department, e.g. “Presentation”, ”Pneumatic Dispatch”, ”Bunkers and Air raid shelters”.

Besides, it is our intention to develop public tours and seminaries about various topics of the Underground, the Urban Development, Civil Engineering, Traffic Conceptions. The cooperation with important Berlin Authorities, e.g. Berlin Transport Company (BVG), Berlin Water Works Company, Berlin Electric Company (BEWAG), the Federal and State Archives, the Municipal Councils (Bezirksämter) should be put on a broad mutual basis. And we want to cooperate with other local associations, e.g. the Berlin Energy Museum, as well.

The Section City Structures wants to present it's collected knowledge, to organize guided tours, events and lectures, perhaps in a partnership with the above mentioned and other institutions. All these activities should be adapted, in time and in content, to the needs and wishes of our potential clients, e.g. school classes, student groups, companies or other interested groups. They shall be on the long term an addition and consolidation of Berlin Underworlds' current Public Tours Conception at Gesundbrunnen.
